First Visit to Launceston and Old Mac's Farm

We left Cradle Mountain on Tuesday the 20th February and headed for Launceston. The huge hill between Cradle Mountain and Sheffield was a real challenge for the landcruiser to tow my big van up. It handled it well of course but the gear box temperature was reading 127 degrees. The radiator was fine.

We arrived at Launceston and went straight to Old Macs Farm. It is only a $10 stay, without power and water, but in a big city that is good value especially with nice grassy sites and toilets available.

I had known about Old Mac’s Farm from when I met Mac, ie Ian the owner, back in 2015 when we were camped close by to each other at Lake Argyle and then at Derby and WA. We had a few good chats at the time and he gave me a flyer for the place and I knew I would get there one day.

Ian came around that night to collect the fees as he does and he reckoned my face was familiar when I mentioned that I had met him two and a half years earlier.

It was one of the most beautiful days of weather since getting to Tazzie and we sat out and relaxed that afternoon after getting a few supplies. Linda and I didn’t do any sightseeing that day as we knew we would be back and we needed the break.

As we were enjoying the evening a scrub fire (we think) started up over the hill. It burnt pretty ferociously by the looks but it burnt itself out fairly quick as there was only a limited supply of scrub in that area.
