Geeveston and the Tahune Air Walk
On Monday the 5th March we were still at Darren
& Maria’s. Linda went out with Maria for the day and met her friend Shirley.
I stayed back at base and was able to get the blog up to date. Always a good
feeling to catch up just as I am doing now before heading off on the road
again.
But first we had a couple of very good days, Tuesday and
Wednesday. Tuesday we went south to Geeveston. From there you take the turn off
to the Tahune Air Walk. We had a look around Geeveston before going on the walk
as we were trailing behind a tourist bus that was heading that way. The museum
in the Information Centre had a lot of history about the place and we enjoyed
having a bit of a look at that.
We had a coffee and then lunch before heading off into the
forest for the air walk. There is a very good camp spot in Geeveston with lots
of vans and all grassy sites, only $5 a night.
For the benefit of the town if you get your entry tickets
from the information centre the town gets a share which is good for the town.
We had a voucher for one free entry, courtesy of Darren & Maria. We had
lunch in the town to support the town rather than having lunch out at the walk
which is run by the Forestry Commission.
So out to the Tahune Air Walk. We got to meet another
echidna in the car park.
Then onto the air walk. The tall gum trees were stunning and
the views from the air walk were as well.
We then went on to the suspension bridge walks.
On the return trip for the bridges walk I nearly walked
right onto a tiger snake, ‘again’. I was about two feet away when he took off
at my right hand side, away from me thank God. I got a video of the tail end
which does not come up on the blog yet.
We then went on the Huon Pine walk and finally got to see
some huon pines.
They are slow growing and this one is 450 years old.
We were planning on travelling to Cygnet and Gordon as well
but we had already filled out the day well and truly and would leave that for
the next day.
